The curationDescription

Restraint learned from a northern winter: pale oak, undyed wool and a room that works on the least light of the year.

Nordhavn is designed for the worst light rather than the best. Every surface is chosen to give light back — lime-washed walls, pale oak floors, undyed wool — so that on a grey afternoon the room is still legible without a lamp being switched on.

The discipline is subtraction. There are eleven pieces of furniture in the whole curation and no decorative objects at all; what would be ornament elsewhere is here a lamp, a bowl or a chair that someone actually sits in.

Design for February. Every surface gives light back; the windows stay bare.

Walls are lime-washed to a high-reflectance warm white and the floor is left pale, so daylight is recycled rather than absorbed. Curtains are omitted entirely. After dark, four warm sources sit low in the room and none of them touch the ceiling.

Pale oak, lime wash, undyed wool, paper cord. Four materials, no fifth.

Oak is soap-finished rather than lacquered so it stays matt and pale. Wool is undyed and used across every seat. Paper cord appears on chairs and stools, and its texture is the only pattern anywhere in the curation.

(03)FormDirective

Eleven pieces of furniture, none of them large.

Nothing in the plan is oversized: a 2.2 metre sofa, a 1.9 metre table, one chair per purpose. The floor is left visible around everything, which is what makes a small northern room feel unhurried instead of sparse.

Nordhavn — Furniture directive: One sheepskin, one brass lamp, no objects.
(04)FurnitureDirective

One sheepskin, one brass lamp, no objects.

There are no decorative objects in Nordhavn. The sheepskin on the lounge chair and the brass swing-arm lamp are the only two things in the curation that exist for pleasure rather than use, and both are used daily.
