Rive Gauche — Entrée, the panelled hall; one sconce pair, dimmed
(01)Entréethe panelled hall

Grey panelling, parquet turned across the axis, and a marble-topped console. The hall is narrow by design so the salon reads wide when you reach it.

Two facing sofas set back from the window so the light crosses the room rather than landing on anyone. The parquet is left bare in front of the casement.

(03)Salle à Mangerthe round table

A round table for six, which is the only geometry that works in a panelled corner. The chandelier is glass and aged brass, kept low enough to light faces.

The curationDescription

A fifth-floor apartment argument: point-de-Hongrie parquet, ash-grey panelling and one tall casement doing all the work.

Rive Gauche is built around a window. The parquet runs toward it, the panelling is kept grey so the light reads cool rather than yellow, and the furniture is placed to leave the casement uncluttered from every seat in the room.

It is the most decorated curation in the house and still refuses pattern: the figure comes from the parquet and the panel joints, not from fabric. Brass appears in small quantities, aged rather than polished, so nothing in the room flashes.

Rive Gauche — Light directive: Cool daylight kept, warm light kept low. Nothing bright above eye level.

The sheers are unlined so the west light stays blue-grey and true to the panelling. After dark the room runs on four small sources at 2700K — sconces, two table lamps and the chandelier at 15% — which lights faces and leaves the ceiling alone.

Point-de-Hongrie parquet, ash-grey panelling, aged brass in small doses.

The parquet is the only figure in the room and it runs toward the window. Panelling is painted a cool grey with a matt finish so it never competes with the floor. Brass is aged, used at hardware scale, and never polished.

Both sofas sit forward of the panelling with a walking line behind them, and the dining table is round so the panelled corner is not fought. Nothing taller than the panel rail is placed in front of a window.

Rive Gauche — Furniture directive: Grey wool, cane and oak. One faded rug carries the age.
(04)FurnitureDirective

Grey wool, cane and oak. One faded rug carries the age.

Upholstery is a single grey wool across both sofas and the dining seats. Cane backs keep the chairs visually light in a heavy room. The rug is the only faded thing in the plan, and it is what stops the curation reading new.
